This is one of the scarcest proof dollars in the Seated Liberty Series. Although 1,300 pieces were struck for circulation with a few proofs in 1851, a small new were restruck later with 20-30 pieces being known today. PCGS has graded 12 coins in this grade and 8 more in all higher grades. These coins appear for sale seldom, and it is one of America's 100 Greatest coins. This is an original undipped specimen having light grayish brown toning with fully mirrored proof surfaces shining through. It surfaces have few marks and the coin has a nice look. The last one of these sold in an October 2007 auction at Stack's for $39,100 so the offering price is very fair. From the Old Roswell Mill Collection.
