An incredible example of this rare issue. Only 55,000 pieces were minted by New Orleans in 1855, and this piece has remained in mint state. Glowing yellow color with excellent luster. Only a few minor handling marks are apparent on this coin. Excellent strike, save for the 8 in the date on the reverse, an area directly opposed to the point of highest relief on the obverse (typical for the issue). Only 11 pieces have been certified finer by PCGS and NGC combined. A truly rare coin in this state of preservation.
