An extreme rarity with an offical mintage of 25 coins, but in reality probably 55-70 coins known as estimated by David Bowers in his new book on Shield Nickels. As far as nickels go, this coin is the rarest nickel coin with the exception of the 1913 Liberty Head 5C which would sell for over $3,000,000 today. This coin has an even light layer of golden-orange patina that masks the underlying Proof surfaces. The strike is very full in all ways which is unusual for a business strike coin, but not for a Proof strike. Only 4 small abrasions are visible on both sides of the coin. Considering that a PR65 of this date is worth over $75,000, this coin is a true bargain.
